DCM Viewer API for Android - Render DICOM Images
DCM is the file extension of DICOM, the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine standard. CT, MRI, X-ray and ultrasound equipment stores its output as DICOM images, so DCM files reach patients on discs and download portals, and developers who build healthcare and telemedicine software.
An ordinary Android image viewer cannot open a DCM file, because the format wraps the pixel data in a medical metadata structure. GroupDocs.Viewer Cloud reads that structure on the server and renders the image as PNG, JPG, PDF or HTML through a single REST call.
Your app displays the rendered output with zoom, thumbnails and page navigation, and it can request selected images instead of rendering everything at once, which keeps a scan series responsive on a phone.
The Android SDK for Java is fetched through Maven or Gradle, with code samples, and the API Explorer runs every operation from a browser. DCM sits alongside more than 180 other supported formats, so one integration also displays the PDFs and Office documents that accompany medical imaging.
