JLS Viewer API for Android - Open JPEG-LS Image Files

JLS files contain images compressed with JPEG-LS, a lossless and near-lossless standard built on the LOCO-I algorithm from HP Labs. It is used mainly in medical imaging, where JPEG-LS is an accepted DICOM transfer syntax and diagnostic pictures must survive compression unchanged. Little mainstream software reads the format, and Android is no exception: a JLS file has no associated viewer on a phone.

The decoding happens on the server, so an Android application needs no codec of its own. A REST call returns the image rendered as HTML, PDF, JPG or PNG; viewer output supports zoom for detailed inspection, page navigation and thumbnails. Password-protected documents render when the password accompanies the request.

Developers add the Android SDK for Java with Gradle or Maven and begin from the bundled samples. Each endpoint is exposed in the API Explorer, so checking JLS rendering is quick, and a free trial removes the initial cost.
