TEX files hold LaTeX source, the plain-text markup that TeX-based typesetting systems turn into finished documents. The format was built on Donald Knuth’s TeX engine and Leslie Lamport’s LaTeX macros, and it remains the standard for academic papers, theses and any document heavy with mathematical notation. Reading one normally means installing a full TeX distribution, which is not practical on an Android device.
